Cuts to Millions of Retirees: Ken Previti asks, “Where is the Rage?”

“The congressional proposal to deal with a supposed crisis in worker pensions by allowing trustees to slash the benefits of already retired workers to shreds is heading toward enactment... Members of the House Education and the Workforce Committee are trying to slip the measure into an omnibus spending bill to be passed before Dec. 11, when Congress leaves Washington for its vacation recess… Pushing it through in haste, as all of Capitol Hill is rushing to get out of Washington and go home for the holidays, only raises the prospect that the most powerless members of the workforce will get screwed…” (Ken Previti’s Blog).

  1. Well, I contacted my senators and reps. So trustees can lower benefits to retirees while allowing larger and larger campaign contributions. Which citizens really matter? This is not a nation for the people and by the people. You only matter if you have a big bucks.

    1. Dear Suzette,

I was able to speak to someone in Senator Durbin's and Representative Foster's office this morning regarding this so-called "pension tax" or diminishment of workers' pension benefits. I left a message on Senator Kirk's office machine. I hope other constituents are doing the same!

  3. Yes, where is the outrage? Big contributors receive consideration. Those that have served, like soldiers and retired, get little. My thinking is that these people have already given a full measure. It is those that can contribute in the future receive considerations. All we have are hollow promises. Those retired still can vote. Employed firemen and police must be warned that they are next. First they came for the Jews, etc. We still have a rich country that decides out tax money is better spent in other countries and the undocumented than for tax payers. It is unrealistic to think we can help the 2 billion or so poor in the world and the 1%.
