“A
coalition of unions representing state employees has gone to court to force
Gov. Bruce Rauner's administration to resume the payment of hospital, doctor
and dental bills
for about 149,000 state workers, retirees and dependents.
“The
coalition — led by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal
Employees — said in court documents filed Thursday that the administration's
recent decision
to halt payments to health care vendors violates the unions' contracts with the
state.
“‘The
employees who are covered by the provisions of collective bargaining agreements
between the state of Illinois and their unions have a contractual right to the
benefit of health insurance benefits required by those contracts,’ according to
the documents…”
