Hope

"Every day it can feel like you’re losing. Every day, because they have power, they have real power to do harm. They are committing atrocities, they are doing damage to human beings every single day, and you can’t stop all of it. And that can be very demobilizing. It can be depressing, it can make people feel like, what is it that we’re actually accomplishing here?

"But for those who study anti-authoritarian movements around the world, here’s how they judge the success of those movements. One, are we more unified than we were before? Two, are we bigger than we were before? Three, are our tactics proliferating and diversifying? And four, is support for the regime decreasing? Each one of those, you could check that box every single month (over the last nine months). That doesn’t mean the authoritarian regime isn’t a threat, but it does mean that our opposition is becoming more effective and is on track to grow to the size it needs to be to protect this democracy."
