A writer must “know and have an ever-present consciousness that this world is a world of fools and rogues… tormented with envy, consumed with vanity; selfish, false, cruel, cursed with illusions… He should free himself of all doctrines, theories, etiquettes, politics…” —Ambrose Bierce (1842-1914?). “The nobility of the writer's occupation lies in resisting oppression, thus in accepting isolation” —Albert Camus (1913-1960). “What are you gonna do” —Bertha Brown (1895-1987).

CONGRATULATIONS CUBS FANS!
The Lovable Losers Are Finally the Lovable Winners: Click Here.
“…The Cubs' championship drought lasted 39,466 days, spanning the terms of 19 U.S. presidents and generations of Cubs fans that endured decades of expecting the worst while cheering for a franchise tagged as lovable losers.
“The team made it to the World Series seven times since its last title, but not since 1945. That's when the storied ‘Curse of the Billy Goat’ began, with Billy Goat Tavern owner William Sianis putting a hex on the team after he and his pet goat were kicked out of Wrigley Field during the 1945 Series. The Cubs wouldn't return to the postseason again until 1984.
“That curse is now dead. And after serving as sports' longest-suffering fan base, Cubs fans are finally rejoicing as champions of baseball…” (Crain’s).
