Vice President JD Vance was accused by Trump
administration critics of having a lack of self-awareness after he suggested
imprisoning people that are “committing fraud against the American people.”
Vance’s comments to Fox News’
Laura Ingraham during an appearance on “The Ingraham Angle” struck
critics as a sound argument for prosecuting President Donald Trump. “I don’t
care where you came from, I don’t care what your name is, if you’re committing
fraud against the American people, all of us, all of us in public leadership
should be trying to stop it and try to throw you in prison for enriching
yourself off the American taxpayer,” Vance said.
Trump has been accused of profiting off the presidency
after earning $2.2 billion in income last year, including $1.4 billion from
cryptocurrency tokens. Bloomberg News reported the president earned more money
in his second term so far than his previous 60-year business career.
Former Secretary of State and 2016 Democratic
presidential nominee Hillary Clinton reacted to a clip of Vance by posting on
X: “Local man suggests jailing own boss.”
Clinton wasn’t the only observer who came to that
conclusion. Joe Walsh, a former Republican congressman-turned-Trump
critic, posted on
X: . “@JDVance calling
for @realDonaldTrump to
be thrown into prison. Immediately.
Wow. Huge news.” Adam Kinzinger, a former GOP congressman
who has also been critical of Trump, was incredulous. “You gotta be joking,”
Kinzinger posted.
“This has to be AI.”
“Uh, does he know who his boss is?! Why are you making threats but not going after the biggest fraudster of them all, JD?!” tweeted another user. “Beyond parody,” one user wrote.
