Stegosaurus

If you’ve ever dreamt of owning a dinosaur, get ready to dust off your checkbook. Sotheby’s auction house is putting a nearly complete Stegosaurus skeleton, nicknamed Apex, on the block next week.

This impressive exhibition-ready mounted skeleton stands 11 feet tall (3.3 meters) and over 27 feet long (8.2 meters). It’s one of the most well-known dinosaurs, thanks to its distinctive bony plates running down its back.

Experts believe Apex lived a long life, as evidenced by signs of arthritis in the fossilized bones. The auction will be held in New York on July 17 as part of Sotheby’s “Geek Week” series.
