Stegosaurus

If you’ve ever dreamt of owning a dinosaur, get ready to dust off your checkbook. Sotheby’s auction house is putting a nearly complete Stegosaurus skeleton, nicknamed Apex, on the block next week.

This impressive exhibition-ready mounted skeleton stands 11 feet tall (3.3 meters) and over 27 feet long (8.2 meters). It’s one of the most well-known dinosaurs, thanks to its distinctive bony plates running down its back.

Experts believe Apex lived a long life, as evidenced by signs of arthritis in the fossilized bones. The auction will be held in New York on July 17 as part of Sotheby’s “Geek Week” series. This expertly prepared and displayed dinosaur skeleton is a true collector’s item. Sotheby’s estimates it will fetch between $4 million and $6 million...
