“...As the new
coronavirus spreads across the United States, the time has come for
restaurants, retailers and other industries that rely on low-wage labor to
abandon their parsimonious resistance to paid sick leave. Companies that do not
pay sick workers to stay home are endangering their workers, their customers
and the health of the broader public. Studies
show that paying for sick employees to stay home significantly
reduces the spread of the seasonal flu. There’s every reason to think it would
help to check the new coronavirus, too…”

Sadly, no shocks there.
ReplyDeleteAnd yet they continue to convince people the unions are bad! Unions brought every GOOD thing to workers that we have. The good things incude fair pay, insurance, SICK DAYS, on and on. Non union workers -the rest of society have benefited from union workers "lifting" the rest of society. But, you know all that. It just continues to astound me that people buy that non-union garbage. Maybe the present crisis will wake them up. Thanks, Glen, for all your intelligent posts. My daughter's school, in Portland, Oregon has closed until end of April.
ReplyDeleteThese are easy ones to identify since they use low wage hourly workers and many are franchise businesses. With contract work becoming the standard in many businesses, it should be no surprise that millions of people no longer have protection. It is clear to me that the Federal government needs to step up. Businesses cannot do it alone.
ReplyDeleteShocked (really?)that CVS and Walgreens are on this list since they are in the "health care" business.
