Remember

The child, bare foot on the dry plain
And what she does not have

The wolf that gnaws off its foot
And the folly of staying in one place

The blur of the hummingbird’s wings
And the owl and its unanswered question

The quiet will of the redwood
And the deep well of the body’s softness

Not the lesson, but the teacher
Prayers and the peace they bring

What the eyes may never see
And the ears may never hear

The man on the window ledge
And the testimony he leaves behind

The faces behind the barbed wire
And the eyes of the refugee and the demented

The paradox of silence
And the closed face of pain

The unoriginality of sin
And the miracle of tomorrow without promise

The patience of vultures--
the truth about Robber Barons
