“In an extended discussion of Tuesday’s opening day of Donald Trump’s second impeachment trial, MSNBC’s Morning Joe co-hosts Joe Scarborough, Mika Brzezinski and Willie Geist aired a graphic video of the January 6 attack on the Capitol. As the video showed rioters clashing with Capitol Police officers, Scarborough said ‘the greatest disgrace is people like Marco Rubio (R-Florida), who wants you to forget these images.’
“‘Marco Rubio posting a video yesterday saying let’s talk about anything else but this,’ Scarborough said. ‘Marco wants us to move on from police officers being battered, abused, blinded, being called pigs, having fences thrown at them, being called traitors. That’s what Marco wants us to move on from. That’s what Lindsay Graham wants us to move on from.’
“Speaking directly to Rubio, Scarborough said ‘I don’t know how stupid you think people are, but America is awake now. America is on alert now. America understands that these people are seditionists. America understands these people are traitors. Americans understand that Donald Trump—and Donald Trump’s words—are the reason they stormed the Capitol, and understand he’s part of this conspiracy’” (Forbes).
My Florida neighbors admire Rubio and Trump. They defend their behavior and support their perceived toughness. They also refuse to wear masks as a sign of their Republicanism.
