Ma Berth’s journey which you elegantly described in the poem, is the story of America and what makes this country so special. It’s very personal to me because I took the same journey with my family from Ukraine in 1978 when I was only four years old. Just like Ma Bertha who share the same name as my grandmother, Left the Soviet Union for the same reason she did for a better life. My father risked everything so that my brother and I could have a better future. I often think about Ma Bertha and how wonderful it would have been to speak to her in her native language. I think she would have been delighted to have someone in the family who has shared a similar experience and loves to eat Borscht. Thank you for sharing her story, and including a picture of her.Steve Novakovskyhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04897650093671707425noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1797875972831999598.post-59494840193474834122018-08-19T21:33:45.320-05:002018-08-19T21:33:45.320-05:00Beautiful poem; reminded me of my own Bubbe, who a...Beautiful poem; reminded me of my own Bubbe, who also came over during the pograms, & who also passed away at 92.<br />Very sad.retiredbutmissthekidshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11718839023774142152noreply@blogger.com
